Grow Your Own: Teacher Pipeline and Retention

This year's budget invests $19.4 million for the "Grow Your Own" program that helps staff who work in schools become full-time, licensed teachers in the communities where they live with a debt free pathway to licensure. This builds on the work that has already helped reduce the state's teacher vacancy rate by more than half.

Academic Excellence: Literacy and Math

The Academic Excellence Program receives $10.9 million in this year's budget to drive literacy and math gains by deploying highly trained state-hired instructional coaches with a singular focus on teacher development and student growth. This builds on the gains in early literacy the administration has achieved, ranking 3rd in the nation for student growth in reading between 2022 and 2025.

Community Schools: Wraparound Services

Community schools, which provide wraparound student and family support services to more than half of Maryland schools, received $572 million in this year's budget. That funding is a 16% increase that will continue helping improve the quality of education for Maryland students and close achievement gaps.
