Official Actions are formal steps taken by the Governor in carrying out the duties of the executive office. This section provides access to records of those actions, including bill signings, proclamations, executive orders, memoranda of understanding, vetoes, and other official executive decisions that affect the State of Maryland and its residents.
Official Actions
-
Bill Signings
When the General Assembly passes a bill, the Governor can sign it into law. Bill signings show which new laws the Governor has approved for Maryland. -
Proclamations
A proclamation is an official statement that recognizes a special day, week, month, person, event, or cause. Proclamations are often used to raise awareness or honor important contributions in Maryland communities. -
Executive Orders
An executive order is a formal direction from the Governor that tells state agencies or officials to take specific action. These orders can guide how state government operates or respond to important issues affecting Maryland. -
Memoranda of Understanding
A memorandum of understanding, often called an MOU, is an official agreement between the Governor’s Office and another organization or government partner. It explains how the parties plan to work together on a shared goal. -
Vetoes and EWS Letters
A veto is when the Governor rejects a bill passed by the General Assembly, meaning it will not become law unless the legislature overrides the veto. EWS letters are official letters explaining the Governor’s position on bills, including why a bill is being vetoed or allowed to move forward.
