ANNAPOLIS, MD – On Saturday, Governor Wes Moore delivered the keynote address during the closing session of the 2024 Maryland Association of Counties summer conference in Ocean City. The Governor spoke about Moore-Miller Administration’s progress and the challenging work ahead to address budget shortfalls, strengthen Maryland’s economy and the critical value of partnerships to emerge stronger as a state.

Here what elected officials, legislators, community leaders, and partners in the business and education communities are saying about Governor Moore’s annual address:

“Since taking office, the Moore-Miller Administration has been moving Maryland forward by working closely with counties around the state, including Montgomery,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “I appreciate the governor’s candor about the challenges we face and his optimism that Maryland will continue to prevail. By working together our schools will be better, our residents will be healthier, our streets will be safer, our environment more sustainable, and an economic climate will be created in order for every resident to thrive.”

“By choosing to invest in health care when so many cuts are on the table, the Moore-Miller Administration is reaffirming its commitment to meeting the needs of all Marylanders, including our LGBTQIA+ community,” said Maryland General Assembly LGBTQIA+ Caucus Chair Delegate Kris Fair. “During a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is under attack nationwide, this administration is saying with a loud and clear voice that Maryland is a safe space to be who you are – no justification needed.”

“In Maryland, we all want what’s best for children and families in every jurisdiction in our great state. The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future provides a path to improve the quality and equity of K-12 education throughout Maryland,” said House Education Subcommittee Chair Delegate Eric Ebersole. “I look forward to working with the Moore-Miller Administration and our state and local partners to find sustainable solutions to our budget challenges and get the plan implemented.”

"Governor Moore strongly supports Maryland's Education Blueprint as a shared priority for every level of government. Our state's economic and social vibrancy rely upon our students building the skills to grow our economy and become productive community members,” said House Education and Economic Development Subcommittee Chair Delegate Stephaine Smith. “With commitment and creativity, I am confident that Maryland's leaders will continue to deliver for our students."

“As a fellow veteran, I can appreciate working with Governor Moore to support our service-members and their loved ones. Since taking office, he has advanced historic legislation to support Maryland’s military families, not just in words, but in actions. In the Army, we learned that while our mission came first, we needed to look out for each other always,” said Carroll County Commissioner Ed Rothstein. “Maryland’s local jurisdictions bring this mindset to our work, as we stand shoulder-to-shoulder – as one team with one fight – to ensure no one is left behind and our service members and families come first.”

"Enhancing Maryland's economic competitiveness and business friendliness is foundational to our state’s long-term success. A thriving business environment creates jobs, attracts residents, and spurs economic growth,” said Maryland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Mary Kane. “Pro-growth policies are the only sustainable solution to our budget challenges, fostering stronger communities and abundant opportunities for all Marylanders."

"We appreciate Governor Moore’s strong commitment to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future,” said Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Accountability and Implementation Board Chair Isiah Leggett. “We will continue to work with the Moore-Miller Administration, the General Assembly, and our State and local partners to build a world class education so every child in Maryland is prepared for a bright future."
