ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today attended the
Rebuilding Careers Job Fair and Hiring Event in Frederick County to uplift resources for Maryland’s displaced federal workers. The event—which attracted more than 900 registrants and more than 75 participating employers—facilitated reemployment connections for former federal public servants, contractors and other interested jobseekers, and supported Maryland employers with connecting to top talent to fill vacant positions.
“Maryland is mobilizing to meet this moment and support our workers,”
said Gov. Moore. “It was great to be in Frederick County to meet public servants and employers who are moving in partnership to steer our state through challenge. We cannot control the actions in Washington, but we can control how we respond. And together, we will continue to meet crisis with courage.”
Governor Moore joined Congresswoman April McClain Delaney, Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu, Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor, and Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Weldon for the event.
The event provided impacted federal workers with the opportunity to engage with human resources staff from municipal agencies, county agencies, state agencies, and private sector employers—including Royal Farms, Mission BBQ, and YMCA. The event also provided the opportunity for Marylanders to connect with various resources including the
Maryland Department of Labor’s Professional Outplacement Assistance Center, which offers free assistance to meet the needs of Maryland professionals.
“Successfully fighting back against devastating cuts to our agencies and the committed civil servants who run them will take coordination on the local, state and federal levels,”
said Congresswoman April McClain Delaney. “I am proud to have a strong partner in Governor Wes Moore, County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and so many of our state and local leaders to show up and stand up for our workforce. We’re committed to ensuring that Marylanders have the support they need to access good-paying jobs and build long-lasting careers in our communities.”
The Maryland Department of Labor’s
Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning worked with Frederick County Workforce Services, Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church, Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Frederick to organize the event—part of the Moore-Miller Administration's
action to
support Maryland’s federal workforce and contractors.
“The Maryland Department of Labor is here to help federal employees and contractors connect with new opportunities, both because we know support is essential and because these workers’ expertise, knowledge, and talent is so valuable to our state,”
said Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu. “Today, we are here in Frederick County, and Marylanders can count on us to show up across the state as we work to meet this moment together.”
“The Frederick County Chamber was proud to stand with our partners in the City of Frederick, Frederick County, the Moore Administration and the private sector, along with the Frederick Seventh-Day Adventist Church to sponsor this job fair,”
said Frederick County Chamber of Commerce President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Weldon. “In these uncertain times, our entire community rallies around our neighbors. Watching Governor Moore comfort and console folks in their worst moments reminds us of the need for compassion and understanding in the face of uncertainty.”
“The Trump administration’s assault on federal workers is arbitrary, cruel, and unfair to people who committed their careers to serving others, and it hits Frederick County incredibly hard because more than 12,000 of our neighbors work for the federal government,”
said Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “I am grateful to Governor Moore and Mayor O’Connor for their incredible partnership with our workforce services team to organize today’s job fair to help people in our community find stable employment.”
“The City of Frederick was proud to have partnered with the State of Maryland, the Frederick County Government, and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce to connect job seekers with employers at a critical time for many in our community,”
said City of Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor. “This job fair demonstrated the power of collaboration in creating real opportunities for workers and businesses alike. Seeing hundreds of individuals take steps toward their next career opportunity reinforces our commitment to workforce development and economic resilience in Frederick.”
