Governor Moore Elected as Vice Chair of the Bipartisan National Governor’s Association

Published: 7/26/2025

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today was elected as vice chair of the National Governors Association, the only bipartisan national organization of, by, and for the nation's governors. The governor will serve as vice chair for the next year, before succeeding Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt as chair in 2026.

“We all want to create a brighter future for our states, and the nation. When we get together at the National Governors Association, we’re focused on whether an idea is good, not on where the idea came from,” said Gov. Moore. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with my fellow governors to build stronger on-ramps to opportunity so every person in our states has a shot at success – no matter how they define it.”

Governor Moore will work in partnership with Governor Stitt to lead a series of convenings with governors, private-sector leaders, and changemakers to advance the chair’s “Reigniting the American Dream” initiative. The yearlong initiative will focus on advancing three policy priorities: unlocking economic opportunity through entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic mobility; reimagining education by expanding hands-on learning, career and technical education; and strengthening sustainable energy systems through permitting reform, regulatory clarity, and strategic investment.

As vice chair, the governor will lead the organization's work to identify innovative policy solutions through bipartisan collaboration and research. His leadership will spotlight Maryland’s nation-leading work on service and inclusive growth, while identifying best-practices across state governments to advance opportunities in Maryland.

The governor will also lead the National Governors Association’s Center for Best Practices, the only research and development office directly serving the nation’s governors. The office leads hands-on research and development, pilot projects, and workshops to create tangible bipartisan solutions across 10 policy areas:

Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association is the voice of the leaders of 55 states, territories, and commonwealths.
