ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today, Governor Wes Moore and cabinet members continued the governor’s statewide cabinet meeting road tour in Queen Anne’s County. The administration’s cabinet convened at Chesapeake College and visited key sites that support the county’s economy and community. The governor and Lieutenant Governor Aruna K. Miller joined cabinet members and local government officials for tours of the Chesapeake College, the Queen Anne’s County YMCA and Active Aging Center, and Paul Reed Smith Guitars’ manufacturing facility.

“Today, we had the chance to meet with community leaders who are uplifting our students, seniors, workers, and entrepreneurs in Queen Anne's County,” said Gov. Moore. “In this moment of challenge, we need everyone raising their hands to support our goals of growing the economy and investing in our people. Marylanders in Queen Anne's have answered the call, and our state will be better because of it.”

Following the cabinet meeting, Governor Moore traveled to Centreville with cabinet members to visit Queen Anne’s County’s YMCA, a recreational hub for the county. The YMCA, one of the largest on the Eastern Shore, serves 7,000 children and families in Queen Anne’s County. The Active Aging Center within the YMCA facility is the second located in the Chesapeake region, and is open to seniors with or without a YMCA membership. The facility was built with the help of more than $3 million in state capital grant funding and an additional grant through the Maryland Department of Aging.

Afterwards, the governor traveled to Stevensville, where he joined Lieutenant Governor Aruna K. Miller and cabinet members for a tour of Paul Reed Smith Guitars’ manufacturing facility. PRS Guitars is the third largest electric guitar manufacturer in the United States. Their state-of-the-art instrument and amplifier factory is Queen Anne’s County’s largest private-sector employer—with nearly 500 employees. The company has utilized Enterprise Zone Tax Credits, and various grants from the Maryland Department of Commerce to support their business operating needs—including workforce development. During the tour, the governor heard about the company’s intention to continue their work in partnership with the state to offer additional workforce training resources, as well as initiatives to address workforce housing needs.

“Today was an important opportunity for Queen Anne’s County to host Governor Moore, Lieutenant Governor Miller, and the entire cabinet,” said Queen Anne’s County Board of County Commissioners President Chris Corchiarino. “I appreciated the candid conversation with Governor Moore about issues important to Queen Anne’s County like education funding and the impact of Bay Bridge traffic on our citizens. The discussion also allowed for an opportunity to emphasize the contributions our farmers and watermen provide to Maryland. We appreciate the Administration’s commitment to engaging directly with local leaders.”

Following the cabinet meeting, the lieutenant governor joined cabinet officials for a tour of Chesapeake College to learn about the school’s partnerships with surrounding public schools to open post-secondary education pathways for students. Cabinet members also traveled to Stevensville to visit Matapeake Beach, which is undergoing a dredging and beach replenishment project in partnership with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
