Governor Moore Continues Statewide Cabinet Meeting Road Tour in Anne Arundel County

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today, Governor Wes Moore and cabinet members continued the governor’s statewide cabinet meeting road tour in Anne Arundel County. The administration’s cabinet convened at Kinder Farm Park and visited locations across the county with County Executive Steuart Pittman and members of the Anne Arundel County Council. The governor also joined cabinet members for a tour of the Chesapeake Arts Center, and discussed strategies to fight against child poverty with ENOUGH grantees.

"It’s great to be in Anne Arundel County today with our entire cabinet, as we work with local elected officials, community leaders, and partners from all corners of the state to deliver for the people of Maryland," said Gov. Moore. "Anne Arundel County is making big strides in areas like advancing health equity and tackling child poverty – while growing our economy and creating pathways to prosperity for all. The progress happening here is a reminder of what’s possible when Maryland doesn’t just move fast – but together."

"Governor Moore and his team understand that governing means showing up, listening, and engaging directly with the communities they serve," said Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman. "Their visit to Anne Arundel County demonstrates their commitment to working closely with local governments to understand our unique strengths and needs. We’re grateful for their partnership and look forward to continuing our work together to build a stronger Maryland."

Following the cabinet meeting, the governor traveled to Chesapeake Arts Center with cabinet members and County Executive Pittman to participate in a discussion with the leadership of the Anne Arundel’s Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families, the county’s local management board, community-based organizations, educators, community school leaders, elected officials, and residents leading efforts to uplift families in Brooklyn Park. Anne Arundel's Partnership for Children Youth, and Families — a member of the inaugural cohort of the ENOUGH initiative — received a $300,000 planning grant to expand local collaboration for their poverty fighting efforts.

"Governor Moore's ENOUGH Act affirms the work of the Partnership and our neighborhood leaders in Brooklyn Park," said Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families Executive Director Dr. Pam Brown. "We thank him for his understanding of the importance of place and his action plan to address childhood poverty across Maryland through ENOUGH. He is our hero!"

The Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families collaborates with various county agencies and organizations like the Chesapeake Arts Center to promote education, health, economic security, and safety. Governor Moore toured Chesapeake Arts Center with cabinet members, and saw the wide array of performing and visual arts spaces, classrooms, and the makerspace available to community members. More than half of Chesapeake Arts Center’s offerings each year are free, making the arts accessible to all.

Throughout the day, cabinet members joined Anne Arundel County council members on tours at the Glen Burnie Town Center, Crownsville Hospital Memorial Park, and the Severn Center. At each stop, cabinet members were briefed by county leaders and stakeholders — discussing local initiatives including elder care, climate-resilient redevelopment, urban resiliency, transit-related development, violence intervention, and youth engagement.
