ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today celebrated Walmart’s newest centralized prescription processing facility, opening in Frederick. Located at 4910 Executive Court, the 102,000 square-foot facility becomes the largest in the company’s central fill network, with the capacity to fill as many as 100,000 prescriptions a day and support 700 stores across 16 states and Washington, D.C.

“Together, we are building strong partnerships to create jobs and address the everyday needs of Marylanders,” said Gov. Moore. “This new facility marks the next chapter in our work to build pathways to work, wages, and wealth while prioritizing access to health care and opportunity.”

The new facility is located at the center of Walmart’s Eastern regional network and will fully automate prescription workflow by using advanced robotics and dynamic weighing systems. The process handles everything from pill counting and labeling to capping and sorting, with a focus on refilling maintenance medications for chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. Prescriptions for acute needs, like antibiotics for infections, will continue to be filled at local stores.

“This facility represents the next chapter in how we care for our customers,” said Walmart Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Kevin Host. “With greater efficiency behind the scenes, our pharmacists can spend more time in front of patients — offering expert guidance, building trust and delivering better health outcomes.”

More than 170 workers have been hired for the facility, including pharmacists, technicians, security and human resources personnel.

“Maryland is the home of innovation, and Walmart’s new prescription processing facility combines advanced technology with a new strategy to help pharmacists deliver healthcare,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “This is great news for Frederick County, Maryland and the entire region, great news for Walmart, and great news for patient care.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Walmart’s largest pharmacy central fill facility to Frederick County,” said Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “I’m pleased that our Workforce Services team was able to assist with recruitment for the 170 new positions created by the center. This state-of-the-art facility is a significant investment in Frederick’s growing biopharma industry, further solidifying our region as a hub for innovation and excellence.”
