Governor Moore Announces $18.75 Million in Safety Grants to Institutions of Higher Education to Help Make Maryland Safer

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore today announced that the Maryland Higher Education Commission has awarded $18.75 million in campus safety grants to Maryland’s colleges and universities. The grants will help facilitate on-campus public safety infrastructure improvements.

“Public safety is our administration’s number one priority,” said Gov. Moore. “These grants will enable our institutions of higher education to invest further in infrastructure that will help make our campuses safer for students, faculty, and staff.”

Administered through the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s Campus Safety Grant program, projects or initiatives eligible for the funds include campus security assessments and recommendations; implementation of enhanced security operations and mechanisms; and emergency management planning. Awardees are required to track and measure program outputs and outcomes via quarterly performance measure and financial reports, submitted to the Maryland Higher Education Commission. 

“The Maryland Higher Education Commission is a diligent partner in meeting the public safety needs of Maryland’s institutions,” said Maryland Higher Education Commission Secretary Dr. Sanjay Rai. “We must continue to uplift our institutions of higher education to ensure our students, faculty, and staff have ideal learning and working environments.”
