Governor Moore Announces Appointments of Chichi Nyagah-Nash and Michael Huber as Deputy Chiefs of Staff

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today announced the appointments of Chichi Nyagah-Nash and Michael Huber as deputy chiefs of staff as part of a reorganization led by Chief of Staff Lester Davis, who assumed the role on October 15. Nyagah-Nash will assume her post on October 29 before Huber starts on November 12.

“Chichi and Michael’s expertise will be vital to our administration and the State of Maryland during this unprecedented time,” said Gov. Moore. “As Maryland mobilizes to confront enormous challenges, we must continue to take bold steps forward to ensure that our state delivers for our people. From economic development and public health to infrastructure and general services, Michael and Chichi have proven that they can handle this moment. I am grateful to them both for raising their hands to serve.”

Nyagah-Nash’s portfolio will include environmental protection, transportation, general services, information technology, and energy. Huber’s portfolio will include economic development, workforce development, housing, insurance regulation, public health, education, and human services.

Chichi Nyagah-Nash
Chichi Nyagah-Nash is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in public and private sector operations. As the deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of General Services, she has played a pivotal role in overseeing the agency’s tactical and operational functions. In close coordination with the secretary and assistant secretaries, Nyagah-Nash provided strategic leadership to ensure that the department executed its mission to support the state’s infrastructure and operational needs. Her expertise extends to governance, financial oversight, policy development, and leadership cultivation, making her an integral part of Maryland’s efforts to deliver efficient and innovative public services.

Nyagah-Nash earned her undergraduate degree from Alliant International University and her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Michael Huber
Michael Huber is a government relations professional with Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, where he manages a complex portfolio of legislative and regulatory issues in the healthcare and higher education sectors. Prior to serving at Johns Hopkins University, Huber served for many years in the Baltimore City government, including as chief of staff in the Office of the Baltimore City Council President, and as chief of staff to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott. As chief of staff in the mayor’s office, Huber helped lead Baltimore City through the COVID-19 pandemic and a spike in violent crime, among many other challenges.

Huber earned his bachelor’s degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and earned his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
