ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today announced the appointment of Eric Bryant to the Maryland State Board of Elections. Bryant, an attorney with more than three decades of experience in law, government, and elective politics, brings a background in civil rights and election administration policy to the board.

“Eric Bryant’s career has been defined by a deep understanding of the law and an unwavering commitment to the democratic process,” said Gov. Moore. “He brings a rare perspective that combines technical legal expertise with a lifelong dedication to civil rights. Eric is the right public servant to ensure Maryland’s elections remain fair and free.”

Bryant most recently served as chief of staff to Congressman Kweisi Mfume, following 14 years as a partner with Rifkin Weiner Livingston LLC. Bryant’s leading roles in local, state, and federal campaigns—inclusive of local and state referenda—give him practical experience with the election laws of Maryland, the Maryland State Board of Elections, federal elections law, and the Federal Election Commission. His work to improve Maryland’s election laws—beginning as early as 2002—include voter re-enfranchisement work as well as a successful effort to update Maryland State Board of Elections regulations so that they kept pace with banner ads and other forms of digital advertisements.

Eric started his legal career as a litigator focused on complex civil matters before he began traveling the country as a national office staffer with the NAACP. While serving the NAACP, Bryant worked on an array of civil rights issues, including large-scale, non-partisan voter registration drives and voter re-enfranchisement efforts.

“It is a humbling honor to be nominated to serve on the Maryland State Board of Elections,” said Eric Bryant. “As a product of the civil rights movement, the principle of 'one person, one vote' is more than a slogan to me, it is a moral imperative. I look forward to serving the Board with purpose and integrity to ensure Maryland continues to have transparent, free and fair elections.”

Bryant earned his law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Duke University.
