Governor Moore's Statement on the Statewide Severe Storm Forecast

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Moore today released the following statement regarding the severe storms forecasted for this afternoon and evening that are expected to have statewide impact:

“The National Weather Service is forecasting severe storms, capable of harming life and property, to move through Maryland beginning this afternoon and into the evening. The risk of severe weather—including winds greater than 70 miles per hour, flash flooding, hail, extreme lightning, straight-line wind damage, and tornadic activity—may accompany these storms in regions across the state.

Especially as the greatest area of risk is concentrated over Maryland’s largest population centers, it is critical that Marylanders heed the warnings from their local Offices of Emergency Management and the Maryland Department of Emergency Management to stay vigilant and prepare for the storm. Marylanders are advised to pay close attention to local weather conditions, seek shelter, and to avoid traveling until the storm is over.

The Maryland Department of Emergency Management has raised the State Activation Level to ENHANCED. We continue to monitor the situation in close communication with the National Weather Service, our state agencies, and our federal and local partners and are actively coordinating, should any emergency response be necessary.
