Governor Moore Appoints Marie Grant as Maryland Insurance Administration Commissioner

“Marie has been an outstanding leader during her time at the Department of Health and brings a wealth of experience to this role. She is the right person to guide the important work of the Insurance Administration,” said Gov. Moore. “Our state thanks interim Commissioner Joy Hatchette for her dedicated service during this transition period, and I am confident that Marie will build on our progress.”
Hatchette will return to her previous role within the administration as associate commissioner for consumer education and advocacy.
Marie Grant is an attorney and state and federal policy expert with nearly 20 years of experience in strategy and regulation in both the public and private sector, focusing on insurance and health care payment. She currently serves as assistant secretary for health policy at the Maryland Department of Health. Her previous roles include director of the Office of Governmental Affairs at the Maryland Department of Health and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Vice President of Public Policy.
Grant began her career at the Maryland Department of Legislative Services as non-partisan committee counsel to the House Health and Government Operations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, where she advised on health, life, and malpractice insurance legislation, as well as consumer protection.
Grant received a B.A. in public health from the Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
