ANNAPOLIS, MD – Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller today announced the appointment of Rachel Sawicki as Communications Director for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Sawicki brings a strong background in journalism and government communications to the office, with a proven record of expanding public engagement and strengthening relationships with the media.
As Communications Director, Sawicki will serve as the primary spokesperson and media contact for the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, leading strategic communications efforts to amplify the Lieutenant Governor’s policy priorities, initiatives, and work on behalf of Marylanders. She will oversee press operations, messaging, and media strategy to ensure clear, accessible communication with communities across the state.
Sawicki most recently served as Press Secretary for Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, where she played a key role in expanding public engagement and media access. Her work included launching monthly media availabilities, the “Ask Governor Meyer” radio show in partnership with local NPR stations, the Governor’s podcast “Matt Chats”, and continuing the “Meyer Minute” video series.
Before joining the Meyer administration, Sawicki was a breaking news reporter at WBAL NewsRadio in Baltimore covering local breaking news and state politics. She also served as the New Castle County reporter for Delaware Public Media, the First State’s NPR station, covering local and state politics and other community issues.
Sawicki has been recognized for excellence in journalism, earning the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s “Best Reporter” award for two consecutive years. Her reporting has also received national honors from the National Federation of Press Women for three consecutive years.
A lifelong Delawarean, Sawicki is a proud University of Delaware Blue Hen, where she earned a B.A. in English and Communication. Outside of work, she enjoys kayaking in state parks with friends, “foster-failing” cat rescues, and picking blue crabs in the summer.
