Do you need a free or low-cost lawyer? The organizations in this section might be able to help.

If you don't see your exact problem, call or email them anyway! They might be able to help you or tell you who to call. They have the newest information.

Watch out for scams!

In the United States, “notarios” are not the same as lawyers. They cannot help you in court. Our office has checked the organizations in this section to make sure they’re real.

Be careful of fake lawyers. Check the person you’re talking to is either

  • A lawyer who is registered to practice in Maryland (use this tool to search), or
  • A “Department of Justice accredited representative” (use this tool to search)

Fake lawyers might:

  • Take thousands of dollars from you without helping
  • Hurt your immigration case with mistakes
