ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today, Maryland’s Secretary of Appointments, Tisha Edwards, presented the first round of Green Bag appointments to Governor Wes Moore–these appointments are a continuation of the Moore-Miller Administration’s promise to create a historically inclusive and experienced state government.

“I made a commitment to Marylanders that we would create a government that looks like the state of Maryland, and I am thrilled to say that our Office of Appointments has followed through on that promise by presenting a group of nominees that is both representative of our state and incredibly qualified,” said Governor Wes Moore. “These appointments represent an incredible shift toward inclusion in our state government, and I am so proud to have these dedicated public servants joining our team to help create a Maryland where no one is left behind.”

The list spans 307 appointments across 65 boards and highlights the Moore-Miller Administration’s commitment to creating a government that looks like the state of Maryland. These presented appointments reflect a new level of representativeness in state government:

• 57% of the new Green Bag nominations represent women, currently 45% of members of today’s 65 Green Bag Boards are women.

• 45% of the new Green Bag nominations represent people of color, currently 27% of members of today’s 65 Green Bag Boards are people of color.

• 27% of the new Green Bag nominations represent women of color, currently only 16% of members of today’s 65 Green Bag Boards are women of color.

This announcement is a major shift in emphasis to representativeness for Maryland boards and commissions along with increased transparency and accountability for the appointments process.
