Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Cabinet Secretaries Convene in Baltimore County to Support Investment in Education, Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth, and Small Business Development

​ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller today convened the administration's cabinet to kick off the governor's statewide cabinet meeting road tour. For the inaugural stop, the cabinet met in Baltimore County and visited several locations to support investment in education, entrepreneurship, economic growth, as well as small business development.

“We are going to the people—we want to see the work that is happening and we want to learn more about how our administration can better serve our mission to help move Maryland forward," said Governor Moore. “This is what partnership is all about—I'm excited about our opportunities for the future."

For regular cabinet meetings, the administration will travel to a different region each month to bring the cabinet's business to communities statewide. The tour will also serve as an opportunity to engage with the community and highlight innovative projects and thriving businesses throughout the state.

During the first visit, at Towson University, Governor Moore, Lt. Governor Miller, and the cabinet met with local leadership and university officials to learn about economic development programs and ongoing building projects on campus.

The StarTUp at the Armory 
According to their website, the StarTUp at the Armory is Towson University's front door for start-ups, small businesses, and the region's largest corporations. The state-of-the art, 26,000 square-foot space includes 6,000 square feet of free co-working space and meeting rooms where entrepreneurs and executives can connect with each other and to Towson University's programs and people.

New College of Health Professions Building 
Towson University's new College of Health Professions building project broke ground in October 2021 and will consolidate the college's programs— including audiology, nursing, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy and health sciences—under one roof for the first time. Slated to open in summer 2024, the 240,000 square-foot structure represents a significant investment in health professions and the university's role as an anchor institution for greater Baltimore and Maryland.

Heavy Seas Brewery 
After touring Towson University, the governor, lieutenant governor, and cabinet visited Heavy Seas Brewery, a local business celebrating 27 years of brewing craft beer in Baltimore. The brewery is a recipient of a Department of Commerce grant enabling use of new technology to thrive and conduct business. 

During this week's State of the State address, Governor Moore laid out his vision for the Moore-Miller administration's commitment to using service and civic innovation as a driving force behind Maryland's progress, strengthening state and local government partnerships, and providing historic support for education and health care.​
