ANNAPOLIS, MD – Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller today joined AAA Mid-Atlantic and members of law enforcement for their annual pre-Memorial Day press conference, where she encouraged Marylanders to practice safe driving habits while traveling to protect themselves, their families, other motorists, and Maryland road construction workers.
“Keeping Marylanders safe – particularly on our roadways – is a top priority for the Moore-Miller administration,”
said Lt. Gov. Miller. “Ahead of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, we ask Marylanders to do their part to keep themselves, their families, law enforcement and highway workers safe on the roads.”
Lt. Gov. Miller also announced that the first meeting of the Governor’s Work Zone Safety Work Group will be held on June 1st. The group, announced by Governor Moore last month and chaired by Lt. Gov Miller, will provide concrete recommendations on improving safety in work zones, such as better educating motorists and reassessing how work zones are set up, and considering legislative action to keep workers safe.
Among the members of the work group are industry experts, law enforcement officials, labor leaders, and Maryland highway workers. Additional details about the first meeting will be announced in upcoming days.
Lt. Gov. Miller was joined by AAA Mid-Atlantic leadership members and members of law enforcement, including Maryland Transportation Authority Police Chief Kevin Anderson. Ahead of the holiday weekend, Lt. Gov. Miller is urging all Marylanders who are traveling to be aware of increased congestion, to follow all road closures and signs, to adhere to “Move Over” laws, and to take necessary safety precautions on the roads.
