Moore-Miller Administration Delivers 2024 Green Bag Appointments

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Wes Moore today received and signed the 2024 Green Bag Appointments from Secretary of Appointments Tisha Edwards and Office of Appointments staff. The appointments reaffirm the Moore-Miller Administration’s commitment to making Maryland the state that serves by rebuilding state government through well-experienced and historically diverse leadership on the state’s boards and commissions.

“Last year, we delivered on our promise to ensure that state government represents all of Maryland. This year, we build on that work by equipping our boards and commissions with new, dynamic leaders ready to work in partnership,” said Gov. Moore. “I thank these 166 Marylanders for raising their hands to serve. They define ‘excellence’ in every sense.”

In 2023, the Moore-Miller Administration delivered a historically diverse group of appointments, with 1,948 appointments across 413 boards and commissions, which reduced both board vacancies, from 17% to 14%, and people serving in expired terms, from 23% to 20%. The 2024 Green Bag list includes 166 appointments, all of whom require confirmation by the Senate Executive Nominations Committee. The administration will submit additional appointments in early March.
Maryland’s boards and commissions are critical to serving Marylanders, from issuing licenses and regulating professions and industries to helping shape, implement, and conduct oversight for policies. Boards are largely volunteer. Last year there were nearly 600 Maryland boards and commissions with governor appointments.

Of our nearly 2,000 appointments in 2023, 49 percent are people of color and 28 percent are women of color–which is more representative of our state,” said Secretary of Appointments Tisha Edwards. “With today’s Green Bag, we continue the work to make Maryland’s boards and commissions more truly representative of the communities they serve."
