ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today traveled to the Eastern Shore for the 2025 Maryland Association of Counties Conference in Ocean City. Alongside Moore-Miller Administration cabinet secretaries, the governor met with local, state, and federal elected leaders and MACo leadership, while attending multiple events at the conference.
“At a time when the federal government is actively stepping away from its responsibilities – launching a direct assault on our people and our economy – Maryland is stepping in and stepping up, and with the kind of urgency that proves we understand the gravity of this moment,”
said Gov. Moore. “The path forward will not be easy, but in Maryland, we always find a way to support our people, to defend our values, and to leave no one behind. This time will be no different.”
The Maryland Association of Counties, known as MACo, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization representing every Maryland county and Baltimore City, and works to foster partnerships that lead to effective and efficient policy solutions. By offering advocacy, training, educational initiatives, and an annual conference, MACo strengthens the ability of county leaders and administrations to better serve their constituencies. MACo stands alone as the only organization devoted to supporting county elected officials and governments throughout Maryland.
Prior to the conference expo walk, the governor, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, and MACo President Jack Wilson, met with executive leaders from Maryland counties and Baltimore City to discuss impacts of the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act on local governments. Among the topics discussed were anticipated impacts from upcoming changes to Medicaid and SNAP, federal funding cuts, as well as state and local response to federal immigration policy.
“Federal Team Maryland is committed to working with the governor and local leaders to deliver for our state—from investing in educational opportunity, to strengthening public safety, to improving our infrastructure, to expanding economic opportunity, and much more,”
said U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen. “Today’s meeting was a chance to discuss these priorities and explore ways to continue to support Marylanders as we confront the harmful actions taken by the Trump Administration, including deep cuts to health care and food assistance programs. We will keep fighting for our state’s needs, values, and the services that help Maryland families and our economy succeed.”
The governor then walked the MACo expo hall where he engaged with booths from state agencies, counties, and businesses.
Following the tour, the governor attended the MACo Board of Directors meeting to discuss various county priorities, before greeting attendees at the annual MACo Crab Feast, featuring live entertainment and seafood.
Tomorrow, Governor Moore will deliver the keynote address during the closing session of the conference. A livestream to view the speech is available
