ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today celebrated the grand opening of a new FutureCare rehabilitation and nursing care facility in Annapolis. The new facility will create more than 200 jobs including registered nurses; physical, speech, and occupational therapists; certified nursing aides; social workers; building maintenance and hospitality staff; and administrative positions.

“The health care sector is the lifeblood of Maryland’s economy,” said Gov. Moore. “So if we want to grow the economy and create jobs, we need to double down on health care facilities like this one, and provide training for Marylanders looking to enter this field. We need to keep building for our seniors, for our workers, and for our entire state.”

Long-term care facilities contribute more than $9 billion to Maryland’s economy each year, and skilled nursing facilities support more than 70,000 jobs across the state. FutureCare’s 150 bed facility is one of more than 200 nursing and rehabilitation facilities throughout the state, and FutureCare’s 16th in the Baltimore-DC metropolitan region. The facility is located on Southhaven Road, and equipped to provide inpatient and outpatient care for patients recovering from medical procedures or a wide range of health conditions.

“Congratulations to FutureCare Annapolis on a terrific grand opening! The need for quality care throughout our communities is only growing, and I am thrilled to have this state-of-the-art rehabilitation and senior care – with over 200 new jobs – right here in Annapolis,” said Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth. “In Congress, I will continue to fight for full Medicaid funding and champion quality, affordable health care for all of our neighbors.”

“We are so proud to have Governor Moore as the special guest and speaker at the Grand Opening of FutureCare Annapolis,” said FutureCare Chief Executive Officer Gary Attman. “The governor has been an incredible advocate for senior citizens in the State of Maryland. He has launched an unprecedented number of initiatives that support seniors by coordinating state efforts, modernizing programs, and expanding services to seniors. Our patients benefit from his positive impact all of the time.”

The Moore-Miller Administration has made strengthening Maryland’s healthcare ecosystem a top priority. To expand access to care in rural Maryland, the governor last year broke ground on the UM Shore Regional Medical Center in downtown Easton. This year, the governor joined TidalHealth for the opening of the Edward Q. Wilgus Community Clinic, which is delivering community-based healthcare to Salisbury’s historically disinvested east side.

Governor Moore also announced a $600,000 investment to provide career pathways and increase retention among healthcare workers this summer, including nursing assistants, patient care technicians, and surgical technologists. The grant funding—distributed through the Career Pathways for Healthcare Workers Program and Direct Care Workforce Innovation Program—will provide occupational training opportunities for more than 300 healthcare professionals.

To support Maryland’s growing population of older adults, the governor launched Longevity Ready Maryland—the state’s first comprehensive plan to ensure equal access to coordinated care, services, and social determinants that enable healthy longevity. The plan will support the work of service providers by consolidating resources; coordinating efforts across government, businesses, and communities; and transforming systems of care to more sustainably accommodate the caretaking needs of older Marylanders.
