Citizens Redistricting Commission

Gerrymandering is a form of political gamesmanship that stifles real political debate and deprives citizens of meaningful choices. Fair and competitive elections – and having checks and balances – make for a more vibrant and responsive citizen republic.

Recent redistricting cycles have earned Maryland the distinction as one of the most gerrymandered states in the country. Governor Hogan has executed an executive order that creates an independent and nonpartisan commission to draw Maryland’s state legislative and congressional districts.

Maryland citizens will have an opportunity to serve on the commission to help ensure that citizens are choosing their elected officials, not the other way around.

UPDATE: The application deadline for the Citizens Redistricting Commission was February 12th. The co-chairs are currently reviewing applicants and will make selections shortly. All applicants will be notified of their selection status when the process is finalized.
