Photo Release: Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford Checks Severn Run Natural Environment Area Off the #LGStateParkBucketList
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford today checked another stop off the #LGStateParkBucketList, his new initiative to visit every state park and other protected areas in Maryland by the end of his term. Officially designated a “Natural Environment Area,” by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Severn Run Natural Environment Area is located in northern Anne Arundel County and includes 24 square miles of protected natural land with an array of plant and wildlife species.
“Severn Run Natural Environment Area is truly a gem of Anne Arundel County, providing an escape into nature just a stone’s throw from Interstate 97,” said Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford. “This goes to show that you don’t have to travel far to experience the beautiful natural resources that our state has to offer. With summer winding down and kids heading back to school in just a few short weeks, there’s never been a better time to get the family together and enjoy the great outdoors at one of Maryland’s state parks or other natural lands.”
Visitors to Severn Run Natural Environment Area can enjoy trails for walking, running, or biking. Severn Run, a nine-mile headstream of the Severn River, is also a recreational fishing stream stocked with brook trout by the Department of Natural Resources. Public access is provided at Dicus Mill Road and off Veteran’s Highway.
