Governor Hogan Announces Judicial Appointment for Carroll County
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that he has appointed Brian DeLeonardo to serve on the Carroll County Circuit Court.
“Brian DeLeonardo has a long and distinguished record of service, and will make an outstanding addition to the circuit court,” said Governor Hogan. “I am pleased to enthusiastically appoint him to serve the people of Carroll County.”
Brian DeLeonardo has served as the State’s Attorney for Carroll County since 2014. As the Carroll County State’s Attorney, he oversees an office of 50 people that handle approximately 7,000 criminal matters in District and Circuit Court each year. He sets prosecution policy, discusses issues and legal strategies on certain cases with the prosecutors assigned to them, evaluates potential plea offers, and keeps apprised of developments in the most serious cases.
Prior to becoming State’s Attorney, he served as the managing partner of DeLeonardo, Smith & Associates for 10 years. His practice was primarily criminal, but he also handled civil matters such as business law, family law, and estate planning. He also worked for four years in the Office of the Maryland Attorney General where he established and supervised the Firearms Trafficking Unit in the Criminal Investigations Division.
Early in his career, he worked for five years as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Charles E. Moylan, Jr., Court of Special Appeals, from 1996 to 1997.
DeLeonardo obtained his B.S. from Towson University and his J.D., magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
