Announces Mass Vaccination Site at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today highlighted ongoing COVID-19 recovery efforts on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with visits to Dorchester County’s vaccination site and Hoopers Island Oyster Co., both located in Cambridge.
Governor Hogan toured Dorchester County’s vaccination clinic at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina, which is capable of vaccinating five individuals every 10 minutes. To further expand access on the Eastern Shore, the state will soon announce a state-run mass vaccination site at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury.
Later, Governor Hogan toured Hoopers Island Oyster Co., a local aquaculture and seafood distribution business that received grant funding from the State of Maryland to help sustain its operations.
The oyster industry was hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic as demand from bars and restaurants significantly slowed. In total, the state has provided more than $1.7 billion in economic aid to Marylanders and local businesses, including targeted relief for agriculture, watermen, and other links in the food supply chain.
