ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today, Governor Wes Moore released the following statement on the ongoing recovery efforts centered on the oil spill in Baltimore City:
“We continue to mount a robust, fully unified response to this incident. Leaders from the City of Baltimore, the State of Maryland, and the United States Coast Guard are moving in lockstep to act with focus and urgency to ensure a swift response.
“Teams worked through the night and into the morning. As of this afternoon, we have been able to collect hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel and remove much of the red color that was in the harbor. And through it all, we have had no injuries.
“This is a complicated operation. We have made enormous progress in a very short amount of time. But I want to reiterate my message from this morning: We still have more work to do. We ask that all Marylanders use alternate routes away from Harbor East. Avoiding the area will help ensure our emergency personnel can do their jobs efficiently and effectively.”
