Governor Moore Champions Public Service and the “Resilient Generation” During 2023 Clinton Global Initiative Meeting

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today delivered remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York City. His remarks—part of a spotlight session entitled “The Resilient Generation: How to Partner with Gen Z For Tomorrow’s Workplace”—emphasized the importance of public service to bridge political divides in our communities, solve big problems, and drive social consciousness to create a more dynamic and impactful workforce. 

“At this moment, at a time when people's response to the political toxicity is to lean out, I'm asking you to lean in. At this moment, when the instinct is to retreat, I want you to step forward,” said Gov. Moore. “Engage in civic life. Engage in service. Because service will save us.”

 

In its first year, the Department of Service and Civic Innovation will place a minimum of 200 members in the Service Year Option or Maryland Corps. Each program offers a unique opportunity to explore a year of professional growth and career opportunities while earning a living wage, gaining new skills, and serving fellow Marylanders.

Participants will serve in state and local governments, nonprofits, schools and for-profit companies in sectors such as climate, education, community health, public service, building trade, information technology, and public safety.
