Statement from Governor Martin O'Malley on Senator Barbara Mikulski
ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 3, 2011) –Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today on Senator Barbara Mikulski’s swearing-in, which will take place on Wednesday, making her the longest serving woman in the history of the U.S. Senate:
“All Marylanders join together today proud of Senator Mikulski’s accomplishment as the longest serving woman in the history of the United States Senate, and grateful for her advocacy and steadfast commitment to Maryland’s families.
“Senator Mikulski has demonstrated a vision to make Maryland a winner in this new economy. Her experience in the Senate offers the people of Maryland unique perspective and skill for implementing that vision. Her exceptional career is not only a testament to her dedication to public service, but also to her ability and willingness to find in others those same leadership qualities.
“I want to congratulate Senator Mikulski on this milestone, and I look forward to the years ahead as we work together for the benefit of the people of Maryland.”
