Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement Provides Keynote Speech for 2018 Government Performance Summit
Maryland Promotes Government Transparency and Accountability
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement today announced that Executive Director Mike Morello served as the keynote speaker during the 2018 Government Performance Summit, hosted by The Performance Institute. The Summit is being held at the Marriott Metro Center in Washington, DC from May 7-9, 2018.
The Government Performance Summit takes place annually, where leaders from across the nation gather to discuss the best strategies and practices regarding government performance. This year, the Maryland Governor’s Office of Performance Improvement was invited to speak on the success of Maryland’s Open Data Portal in its promotion of transparency and accountability.
“Maryland is honored to be recognized as a national leader for government performance best practices,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Improving transparency and customer service is vital to ensuring that Maryland agencies are more efficient, responsive, and accountable to all Marylanders. That’s the way our government should work.”
The Maryland Open Data Portal consists of more than 300 valuable datasets that are available to the public. Assisted by the Maryland Council on Open Data, Maryland agencies publish datasets containing statistics on crime, the environment, the labor force, property assessments, geography and much more.
“The Government Performance Summit is an excellent exchange of ideas and best practices to improve public sector performance management,” said Mike Morello. “Performance analytics, emerging technologies, process improvements, and customer service are all vital topics for a more efficient, transparent government.”
