Governor Larry Hogan Tours Wicomico County Manufacturers
MaTech Solutions, LWRC, Xerion Employ Over 200 Marylanders
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today toured MaTech Solutions and LWRC, manufacturers of advanced military technology, and Xerion, a telecommunications infrastructure manufacturer, at the companies’ shared facility in Salisbury, Md. The three companies collectively employ over 200 workers in Maryland.
“Manufacturing is a vital part of our state’s economy, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to get a firsthand look at the important work these great businesses and their workers do every day,” said Governor Hogan. “We have been focused on creating a more business-friendly environment in our state since day one, and our More Jobs for Marylanders Act will help manufacturers create jobs where we need them most, like right here on the Lower Shore.”
Under the Hogan administration’s More Jobs for Marylanders Act, which was passed by the Maryland General Assembly during the 2017 legislative session, existing manufacturers in Wicomico County that create at least 10 new jobs receive a refundable state income tax credit of 5.75 percent of wages for each new position. In addition, the law encourages companies to invest in new equipment through accelerated depreciation.
The governor’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget also included $1 million for the Partnership for Workforce Quality to provide matching grants to manufacturers that provide training programs for current workers, and $1 million for Workforce Development Scholarships for students in job training programs at local community colleges.
