Governor Larry Hogan Announces Judicial Appointments
Fills Vacancies on Montgomery County Circuit Court
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today announced the appointments of Magistrate James A. Bonifant and Kevin G. Hessler to the Montgomery County Circuit Court. The governor made the appointments after reviewing submissions from the judicial nominating commission for Montgomery County.
“After conducting a thorough vetting process, I am confident that Jim Bonifant and Kevin Hessler are the most qualified candidates to fill these circuit court vacancies,” said Governor Hogan. “Throughout their legal careers they have exhibited intelligence, integrity, and a strong commitment to justice and our legal system. I offer my sincere congratulations and best wishes.”
James A. Bonifant has been practicing law for over 33 years, and currently serves as the family division magistrate for the Circuit Court of Montgomery County. Prior to his appointment as a magistrate in 2013, Mr. Bonifant was in private practice in the area of civil litigation in Montgomery County, specializing in family law matters. He was a partner at the firm of Debelius, Cliffrod, Debelius, Crawful & Bonifant. Mr. Bonifant received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.
Kevin G. Hessler has worked as a partner with Dragga, Hannon, Hessler & Willis, LLP since 1999. Prior to joining his current firm, Hessler worked as an associate and partner with Miller, Steinberg and Hessler, where he had a general practice and handled both civil and criminal cases. After graduating law school, Hessler was a judicial clerk for the Honorable John J. Mitchell of the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, and then with the Honorable John P. Moore of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. Mr. Hessler received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University.
